Language Cafés by Language Exchange International

Looking to meet people from all over the world and practise languages ? Find an international meeting/event near you !

Founded in 2010, Language Exchange International seeks to bring together, promote or start up groups across countries, both formal and informal, to pursue the following goals:

* To welcome and befriend foreigners in each of our cities with the goal of making their stay easier and more fulfilling through immersion in the countries in which they live.
* To promote languages and cultures internationally, regionally and locally with the goal of allowing people in each locality to practice languages and meet people from the entire world.

Each group organizes one or more weekly “conversation groups.” At these get-togethers a large number of nationalities meet side by side: British, German, Italian, Spanish, French, Chinese, Polish, Saudi Arabia, Ukrainian…The atmosphere is convivial, discussions non-stop, and the range of languages amazingly broad.

Polish, Japanese and Origami…

OrigamiThanks to Bart, Makiko and friends we are now able to offer Japanese and Polish tables. Don’t worry if you don’t speak a word, you can find out the basics too…

Cześć, jak się masz?

Here are some of the creations made by participants at the Japanese table. Not only a linguistic, but also a cultural experience!

Organiser sought in Baden-Baden!

At the last meeting in the Trinkhalle, participants expressed the desire to have two meetings per month. As I have other work commitments, we would have to find a second organiser on site. If you’re interested, please contact me.

Create a Language Café near you!

Chatbella LogoPeople ask me often if there is a meeting they can attend in their town or city. If there isn’t one, how about organising it yourself? It’s a great opportunity to bring people together of all ages, backgrounds, nationalities and professions and you can meet lots of new people!

So, what do you need? Here are the steps:

  • Let me know that you are interested in creating a meeting in your area. I can accompany you along the way.
  • Locate a suitable café or bar which is centrally-located, with good acoustics and with reasonably-priced drinks.
  • Arrange a meeting with the owner/manager to explain the concept and find out his/her reaction. The café/bar benefits by gaining new, regular clientèle. As this is a voluntary (unpaid) activity for all concerned, no money should change hands for staging or organising the meeting.
  • Once you have the café, just add pictures and meeting details to the blog and I’ll add it to the Chatbella newsletters.
  • As organiser, you should distribute flyers which we will provide you with, be there to welcome guests and stay until the end of the meeting, search for native speakers if necessary and take contact details for participants to be informed of future meetings.

It’s as easy as that!
